Why the original owners are upgrading to a new Trouvaille
One of our favourite things is when a customer comes back to trade in their Trouvaille for a new one and continue their campervan journey with us. And that's exactly what's happened here – the original owners are moving up to a new Trouvaille Classique MWB, so their SWB is now available to its next lucky owner.
We built this 'van from new, so we know its story from day one. The owners have looked after it beautifully: they always kept throws on the seats, and it's as clean now as it was when it first rolled out of our workshop!
It's lovely to see owners stay with us when they're ready for their next 'van. Why an SWB automatic campervan is so hard to find
This 'van is 4,963mm long, which puts it under 5 metres and the same length as a short wheelbase VW Transporter. This size 'van is very popular as it fits nicely in a single parking space, so it works just as well for the supermarket run as it does for a week away.
Fiat no longer make the shorter 5 metre Ducato, so SWB versions like this one are getting harder and harder to come by. Automatics very rarely come up second-hand either, and finding one with a fixed high top as well is rarer still!
A 'van like this can be used as your main car – we know because we've done it ourselves. Richard used to drive a SWB Trouvaille every day, and he still uses his MWB as his daily car now.
How it drives
The base vehicle is a Fiat Ducato Business Edition with the 2.2 Multijet III 140hp engine and an automatic gearbox, finished in metallic silver. It has the modern dashboard, which makes it feel much more like driving a car than a traditional van. The steering is light, the cab is comfortable and it drives as nicely as a new 'van.
You'll find a full 7" digital cluster behind the wheel and a 10" touchscreen with built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The reverse camera shows up on the same screen. It also has keyless entry and keyless start, an electric park brake, electrically folding heated mirrors, wireless phone charging and automatic climate control.
At 13,800 miles, it's barely run in. It's still being used, though, so the sooner it finds a new home, the lower the mileage will be.
Space, storage and a lot of head room
Step inside and the first thing you'll notice is the height. The fixed high top gives you far more room than a standard factory roof, with well over 6 foot of head height through the middle. If you're on the taller side and have struggled in standard height 'vans, you'll really feel the difference here. The roof is carpet lined and insulated, and the skylight lets in plenty of natural light.
Storage is everywhere. There's roof cupboard storage and a big locker over the cab, which is perfect for pillows and cab screens. There are also two shelved wardrobes, and the main wardrobe can be reached even when the bed is set up as a seat. The boot is larger than you'd expect for a smaller campervan, and it has a D ring tie down point for the dog.
This 'van has our original Layout option 1 with a side kitchen. You get a two burner gas hob and a stainless steel sink, plus a 90 litre family size fridge freezer. There's a deep pantry cupboard, a deep pantry drawer and a cutlery drawer. The fold away table stores out of the way and has two positions, so you can use it for meals or as extra worktop space when you're cooking.
Sleeping and seating
The rear seat is a crash tested triple bench with Isofix points, so together with the two front seats this is a five seater. Both front seats swivel round to face the living space. The upholstery is Aquaclean protected fabric in Hove Silver, which means you can enjoy a light colour without worrying about spills.
The triple seat converts into a large double bed measuring 1.86m by 1.29m. It's a really nice wide bed for a short wheelbase camper, and you can also angle it, so it's easy to sit up in bed with a cuppa.
The high top also gives you a bonus sleeping space for children up in the roof. The original owners used it as extra storage while driving, with everything bolted securely in place, but it's there as a bed for little ones when you need it.
Over £4,000 of extras
This Trouvaille comes with more than £4,000 of extras already fitted. They include an electric step, rear parking sensors and a Fiamma F45s awning.
For peace of mind, it also has a safe and a Sentinel Cat 1 alarm. The owners added 4G Wi-Fi and a sliding door flyscreen as well. For evenings in, there's a 12.5" drop down TV with a DVD player, an external digital TV module and two pairs of wireless headphones.
The standard specification is well equipped too. It has two 95a leisure batteries and a 100w flush fitted solar panel to top them up when you're away from hook-up. Gas blown air heating and double glazed windows keep it warm, and it's fully winterised, so it's ready for camping all year round. The fresh and waste water tanks are fitted externally with an easy access drain.
