Campervan vs Motorhome:
Which Is The Right Orange Camper for You?

At Orange Campers, we design and build premium handcrafted campervans that combine comfort, practicality and thoughtful design.

Many of our customers come to us believing they need a larger motorhome, only to discover a well-designed campervan gives them everything they're looking for. Others are searching for a more comfortable and capable way to travel, without compromising on flexibility.

What’s the Difference Between a Campervan and a Motorhome?

Choosing the right campervan is a big decision, and the best place to start is by understanding the key differences between a campervan and a motorhome.

At their simplest, both are designed to help you travel comfortably and enjoy life on the road. The main difference comes down to how they’re built, how they’re used, and the experience they offer.

A campervan is built within the original body of a van, which creates a more compact vehicle that’s typically easier to drive and park, while remaining highly flexible for everyday use.

A motorhome is built on a dedicated chassis with a larger living area added to the rear. This often provides additional internal space but results in a larger vehicle overall.

For many buyers, the decision isn’t simply about size, but about finding the right balance between living space, usability and flexibility for the way they want to travel.

Campervan vs Motorhome: What Actually Matters

What Actually Matters

When comparing a campervan and a motorhome, it's easy to focus on measurements and floorplans. In reality, the things that matter most only become obvious once you start imagining how you'll actually use the vehicle.

Confidence behind the wheel

One of the biggest concerns we often hear is whether a campervan will feel too small – or whether a motorhome will feel too large!

For many people, confidence behind the wheel plays a huge role in how often they use their vehicle. A campervan typically feels more manageable on UK roads, country lanes and in towns, while still providing the comfort and facilities needed for longer trips away.

Space and comfort

It's easy to assume that bigger automatically means better. However, a well-designed campervan can provide all the space and comfort you need, without the additional size of a motorhome.

Thoughtful layouts, comfortable sleeping areas and practical living spaces can make a campervan feel surprisingly spacious, while still retaining the flexibility that attracts many buyers in the first place.

Everyday use

Another important thing to consider is how often you expect to use your vehicle. Many campervan owners find themselves taking more spontaneous trips, from weekends away to longer holidays.

Their 'van is always ready for the next trip, making it easy to get away whenever and wherever they choose. The less daunting a vehicle feels to drive and park, the more likely it’ll become part of your everyday life.

Parking and practicality

While a motorhome can offer extra internal space, that comes with a larger footprint. Parking, manoeuvring and finding suitable spaces can become more of a bugbear, particularly in the UK.

A campervan offers the balance that many find works better for the realities of modern travel, giving them the freedom to explore without constantly thinking about where they'll fit.

Built to last

For many buyers, this is a long-term investment rather than a short-term purchase. At Orange Campers, our campervans are handcrafted with premium materials, thoughtful design and meticulous attention to detail.

We build our campervans to be enjoyed for years and years, which is why every Trouvaille Classique MWB comes with a 5-year conversion warranty for added peace of mind.

The result is a campervan designed not only for comfort and usability today, but for many years of enjoyment to come.

Why Many Buyers End Up Choosing an Orange Campervan

Many of our customers begin their search convinced they need something different. Some arrive expecting to buy a motorhome, while others have already narrowed their search to a particular campervan manufacturer.

What often changes their mind is seeing how Orange Campers are used in the real world.

Take Sharon and Neil. After years of campervan ownership, countless hours of research and visits to major campervan shows, they still hadn't found the right fit. They wanted more comfort, storage and practicality, but without a larger, bulkier vehicle. It wasn't until they stepped inside a Trouvaille MWB that they realised a well-designed campervan could give them everything they were looking for.

Time and again, customers discover they don’t need the biggest vehicle on the market. What they really need is a campervan designed around the way they actually travel, built with the quality, attention to detail and craftsmanship that Orange Campers are known for, and built to last.

From our high-specification Fiat Ducato base vehicles to our handcrafted conversions and premium features included as standard, every Orange Camper is designed to make life on the road easier and more enjoyable for years to come. Every layout is shaped by years of customer feedback and continuous refinement, ensuring each campervan works as well in practice as it does on paper.

DON'T WASTE TIME

go Straight to Orange!

"We went to the campervan & caravan show intending to buy a certain make of van and stopped at the Orange stand to prove to ourselves we were making the right choice.

Within 10 minutes it was patently obvious we were about to make the wrong choice because Richard, Sonya and the Orange campers crew are streets ahead of any other van.

Don’t waste your time with others- go straight to them."

- Linda via Trustpilot, October 2024

"The quality and attention to detail are second to none."

- Peter Horrocks

"Everything has been thought through brilliantly. It just works."

- Anne Parks

TeSted & refined

Orange Campers owners Richard and Sonya use their ‘vans as a family, travelling across the UK and beyond.

Every trip feeds back into how they design, refine and improve each layout.

The Best Way to Be Sure

We understand that choosing the right campervan for you is a big decision, which is why there’s no substitute for seeing one in person.

You can compare specifications, read reviews and watch videos, but nothing compares to actually stepping inside a campervan and experiencing the space for yourself. Opening cupboards, trying the bed and seeing how the layouts work in real life often answers questions you didn't even know you had.

That's why we encourage everyone to visit us for a workshop tour. You'll be able to explore our campervans, see them being built, understand the thinking behind the designs and chat to the team about how you plan to use your 'van.

If you'd like to go a step further, we also offer test drives and campervan hire, giving you the opportunity to experience an Orange Camper on the road before making a decision.

Choosing your forever ‘van isn’t a decision most people make overnight. We believe it’s important to feel confident in your choice, which is why we encourage customers to take the time to explore the options and find the campervan that truly fits the way they travel

Book a workshop tour today and experience an Orange Camper for yourself

As a thank you for visiting, you'll receive a complimentary Orange Campers mug set to take home with you:
