The Trouvaille Classique MWB is a medium wheelbase campervan, coming in at 5.4 metres. It sits right in the sweet spot between a smaller campervan and a full motorhome, which is exactly why many describe it as a “mini motorhome”, and we understand why.

You’ve got the added space, comfort and flexibility you’d expect from something larger, but without the size, compromise, or faff that comes with a bulky motorhome. Built with premium comfort, thoughtful design and the long-term in mind, our customers don’t view the Trouvaille MWB as a compromise – it’s a considered upgrade.

Of course, with that step up comes the question: Is it too big?

That extra 40cm over a shorter ‘van doesn’t sound like much on paper, but it completely changes how the space works. It gives you proper room to live in, not just get by in.

This is the campervan people choose when travelling in comfort matters to them. Longer trips feel easier, you’ve got space to relax, there’s room for the dog, your gear, and even the grandkids when they join you.

For a lot of our customers, this is the move from a starter ‘van into their “forever ‘van”. The MWB simply works better, day in and day out, wherever you take it.

Roof and layout options to suit how you travel

One of the biggest advantages of the Trouvaille Classique MWB is flexibility. Whether you’re looking for a compact setup for two, extra sleeping space for all the family, or the comfort of a high roof with added practicality, there’s a roof and layout style to suit you.

What is a Medium Wheelbase Campervan?

A medium wheelbase campervan, often shortened to MWB, refers to the length of the base vehicle. In our case, we build on Fiat Ducato vans of 5.4 metres.

The MWB sits between a short wheelbase campervan, a more compact option, and a larger motorhome that offers more space but can feel less practical to drive and park day-to-day.

This balance is exactly why the MWB has become such a popular choice. It gives you the additional room needed for more versatile layouts, better storage, and a far more usable living space, while still feeling manageable and easy to drive.

For many people, this is what they’re actually looking for when they search for a “mini motorhome”. A campervan that delivers the comfort of a full motorhome, with the added benefit of being more flexible, easier to drive, and better suited to more regular outings.

The Trouvaille Classique MWB Campervan - Designed for Real Travel

The Trouvaille Classique MWB is designed for people wanting to spend real time away in comfort, without feeling limited by space or practicality. This is your home-from-home campervan, built for everything from spontaneous weekends away to extended trips across the UK and beyond.

The difference quickly becomes noticeable, with space to properly settle in, whether that means relaxed mornings with a coffee inside the ‘van, evenings spent out of the rain, or simply being able to move around comfortably without constantly packing things away.

It’s also this balance that makes the MWB so appealing compared to a larger motorhome. You still get the sense of space and usability many people are searching for, but in a campervan that feels far easier to drive, park, and enjoy day-to-day.

For many customers, it also feels like a far more modern and aesthetically pleasing way to travel, without the bulky appearance that can come with a larger motorhome.

Thoughtful, practical and built to be enjoyed for years to come.

Why Choose a MWB 5.4m Campervan?

The biggest difference with a 5.4m campervan isn’t simply the extra length, it’s what that additional space allows you to do with it.

That extra room completely changes how the campervan works day-to-day. Layouts feel more spacious and practical, storage becomes far more usable, and longer trips feel far easier and more enjoyable.

It also opens up far more flexibility in layout options. Whether you’re looking for a fixed rear bed, additional travel seats, a shower option, or extra sleeping space for family trips, the MWB gives you the room to do it without compromising on practicality or layout.

Sleeping areas benefit hugely from the additional space too. Larger beds, improved walkways and a more open feel throughout the ‘van all make a noticeable difference, especially on longer trips where comfort becomes increasingly important.

Storage is another area where the MWB really comes into its own. From outdoor equipment and clothing to bedding, dog accessories and everyday essentials, there is simply more room for the things that make travelling easier and more enjoyable.

One of the biggeSt benefitS is having a proper place for everything

Dedicated storage for shoes, kitchenware, toiletries and everyday items makes the campervan feel far more organised and easier to live in day to day, without constantly moving things around or searching for where something has ended up.

For many customers, this is the point where a campervan starts to feel like their home from home.

Does a Medium Wheelbase Campervan Feel Big to Drive?

Moving up in size can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to driving a car or a smaller campervan.

In reality, most customers are surprised by how quickly the MWB feels natural to drive. At 5.4 metres, it still drives very similarly to a standard van, while remaining comfortable and manageable on UK roads, in car parks and on narrower routes.

At Orange Campers, we build on the Fiat Ducato, which offers a smooth, carlike drive and a more refined driving experience than many people expect from a campervan. We also order our Fiat base ‘vans to an exceptionally high specification, with premium safety, technology, style and comfort features included as standard.

It’s the smaller details that make a real difference too. Features such as 270-degree rear opening doors help maximise light and usability inside the campervan, reflecting the level of thought and attention that goes into every Orange Campers build.

Combined with our carefully considered layouts and meticulous conversion design, the result is a campervan that feels comfortable, capable and genuinely enjoyable to drive.

The additional space inside doesn’t translate to a dramatic difference on the road. For most people, the benefits quickly outweigh the initial hesitation. Better comfort, more usable living space and increased flexibility all make a noticeable difference once you start using the ‘van on real trips.

It’s one of the reasons so many customers tell us afterwards that the MWB felt far easier to drive and live with than they expected before seeing it in person.

One of the biggest comparisons customers make when choosing a campervan is whether to go for a short wheelbase (SWB) or medium wheelbase (MWB) layout.

A short wheelbase campervan is often the right fit for customers prioritising a smaller footprint and compact everyday driving. However, the reduced size can naturally limit layout possibilities and overall living space.

The MWB offers a noticeable step up in how the campervan feels to live in. That additional length creates more flexibility throughout the layout, allowing for larger beds, increased storage, more spacious seating areas and a far more comfortable setup for longer trips away.

For many customers, the move to an MWB happens when they begin wanting more from their campervan: More comfort on longer journeys, more practical living space, or the flexibility to travel with dogs, grandchildren or additional equipment without feeling restricted on space.
