Choosing a campervan isn’t something you rush
For many people, buying a campervan isn’t an impulse decision. It can be something that sits in the back of your mind for a little while. Along the way, you may go to a show, hire a van, or go on your own trips to help with the decision.
That was very much the case for Richard, the proud owner of a new Micro Camper.
On a bright and sunny collection day, we caught up with him as he picked up his Orange Micro Camper — the result of a campervan idea that stayed on the back burner for a while, until the timing felt right, and involved plenty of research, real-world testing, and careful consideration about how a campervan would fit into everyday life.
In the video below, Richard, who’s just collected his Micro Camper, chats with Richard from Orange Campers about how he reached his decision and what mattered most along the way.
Discovering Orange Campers (and taking the time to explore)
Richard (Micro Camper owner) first came across Orange Campers at the Norfolk show back in 2022. At the time, he knew a campervan was something he wanted in his life – but it simply wasn’t the right moment to take the next step.
Family had to come first. With his mum unwell, Richard couldn’t see himself heading off in a campervan just then, and he was honest with himself about that. Rather than rushing into something, he parked the idea for a while, knowing he’d come back to it when life felt more settled.
What mattered was that when the time did come, he wanted to feel confident he was choosing the right 'van and the right people.
So over time, Richard did what many people naturally do. He visited shows, asked questions, hired different 'vans, and got a feel for what campervan ownership would actually be like for him. And when the timing finally felt right, Orange Campers were still very much part of the picture.

Knowing what really matters
By the time Richard was ready to choose, his priorities were crystal clear.
A good mattress was high on the list (especially upstairs) along with overall height and value for money. The Micro Camper ticked all those boxes, offering a low-profile 'van that’s easy to live with day-to-day, without compromising on comfort or quality (and now comes with the option of a froli sprung roof bed).
Value wasn’t just about price either. For Richard, it was about getting a newer, nicer 'van for the money. Something that felt right both as a camper and as a vehicle he’d use regularly.

One van, real life, every day
One of the biggest factors in Richard’s decision was practicality. With space for just two vehicles at home, the camper needed to pull double duty.
This wasn’t going to be a 'van that sat on the drive waiting for holidays. It needed to work as car number one.
And that’s where the Micro Camper really came into its own. Small enough to drive every day, easy to park, comfortable on the road — yet still packed with everything you need onboard: cooking facilities, heating, a toilet, and a proper bed upstairs.
As Richard put it, campervan life isn’t just about big trips away. It’s about day trips, too.
Those spontaneous outings (like his visit to Compton Verney) suddenly feel different when you’ve got a camper with you.
Somewhere to make a brew, keep food chilled, or just sit and enjoy the moment. It turns ordinary days out into something that feels that bit more special.
Wondering how practical a Micro Camper really is? This quick video shows just how easy it is to park and use day to day.
Freedom without planning everything
One of our favourite parts of this conversation was Richard talking about discovering places he’d never have planned a full holiday around.
With a campervan, those smaller, quieter places become part of your world.
Villages you’d normally drive past. Detours you wouldn’t usually take.
Even sitting in traffic feels different when you’ve got a kettle, heating, and everything you need right there with you!
That flexibility — the ability to stop, pause, and enjoy where you are — is something you just don’t get from a normal car.

Comfort, quality, and clever design
Richard also pointed out one of those “little things” that made a big difference to him in his new 'van: the adjustable rear seat.
Being able to move the seat forward makes the 'van feel more car-like when you want it to, while also freeing up extra space in the back when needed. It’s practical, flexible, and thoughtfully designed — exactly the kind of detail that matters when you’re using your van every day.
Safety and quality were just as important. From crash-tested beds to solid, well-built components throughout, Richard wanted confidence that everyone travelling in the 'van would be safe and comfortable. That focus on quality is something we’ll never compromise on.
For us, it’s never just about handing over the keys. In this video, Richard from Orange Campers talks about our aftercare service and why looking after our customers is such a big part of what we do.
It’s not just about the 'van
One of the strongest themes in Richard’s story wasn’t actually about the Micro Camper itself – it was about people.
Buying a campervan is a big decision, and aftercare matters just as much as the day you collect the keys. Knowing the people you’re buying from, trusting they’ll still be there to support you, and feeling part of something bigger makes all the difference.
That sense of community – meeting other Orange Campers on the road, being part of the owners’ group, sharing stories and tips – is a huge part of what keeps people coming back.
As our Richard from Orange Campers said, it might sound cheesy, but it really does feel like a family!
