THOUGHTS FROM THE WORKSHOP

Why the Trouvaille Classique MWB is a game-changer for your campervan storage needs

If you've ever tried to cram a weekend's worth of gear – plus two kids' worth of just-in-case extras – into a campervan, you’ll know how quickly space runs out.

Whether it’s folding chairs, BBQ gear, bedding, bikes, or a stash of emergency biscuits, it all adds up!

That’s why, when it comes to real-life travel, size does matter – and the Trouvaille Classique medium wheelbase (MWB) is built with exactly that in mind.

We know vans look great empty on a show stand, but it’s only when you’re halfway up the coast, with a full fridge, kids on board, and two weeks' worth of kit that you truly test what a camper can handle.

So we packed up our Pop-Top MWB and hit the road, fully loaded as usual— we never travel light! And what we found confirmed it again: the MWB is worth every extra inch.

Watch Richard show you around the MWB’s handy storage spots...

Rear ‘garage space’

Let’s start at the back. Open up the twin doors at the back of the ‘van, and you’re greeted with what we call the “garage area.” It might not sound glamorous, but it’s a lifesaver.

In ours, we packed:

  • 2 bikes mounted on the back

  • A pop-up tent (aka the mobile shed!) to store car seats

  • 4 camping chairs

  • A full-size camping table

  • Chocks

  • A Cadac BBQ

  • Tool kit with hammer, tent pegs, mallet, bulbs

  • Hook up cable and hosepipe

That’s before we even touch the under-bed storage or kitchen!

The rear step folds neatly out the way, and we’ve updated the locker layout in newer vans to make it even more upright and accessible, which makes stacking a breeze.

We brought along a pop-up tent, too, which is quite the game changer. If you’ve still got little ones in car seats, it’s ideal for chucking bulky gear like seats in out the way while camping, especially when the weather turns. It keeps the van clear and the kids dry!

Under-seat & hidden storage

The MWB layout gives you more floor space, which means more hidden storage.

We’ve got deep drawers under the rear seats, packed full of travel essentials and bits for the kids to grab while on the road. There are also some floor level cupboards where we stash our footwear ( and we do bring a lot of shoes!) And in the one opposite we house the Cadac BBQ.

Behind the seats, we stashed extra bedding – thick duvets, pillows, and even our mattress topper. Usually, the topper lives in the pop top.

Every nook is useful. There’s even a spot for your thermal pop-top wrap, silver screens for the front window and awning

Kitchen fit for a family

In our house, eating out all the time just isn’t an option (partly due to dietary needs, partly due to Yorkshire thrift!).

So we bring:

  • Proper household pans and utensils

  • All cooking basics like olive oil, flour etc

  • Fruit, fresh veg

  • Pasta, rice, cereal etc

And the Trouvaille handles it all.

The kitchen cupboards are strong and deep with ergonomic catches that actually stay shut.

There’s even a cupboard above the fridge that fits a proper chopping board and a full-size wardrobe next to it.

Plates and bowls fit properly – no cramming in picnic plates unless you want to.

Under the fridge, there’s a big food cupboard with a handy floor vent to keep things cool. Bottles fit in here too.

And importantly there's even a cupboard for the bin! You may say and so what? but believe us when we say this is a game changer.

And the fridge itself? A whopping 90 litres with a freezer compartment. Ours was rammed with enough food to feed two hungry lads for a fortnight – and that’s saying something!

Everyone gets their spot

One thing we love is how you can divvy up storage fairly.

The kids get the front cupboards, Sonya bags the wardrobe, and Richard claims the back bathroom cupboards. It works. Keeps everyone organised and stops the usual, "Where’s my jumper?!" chaos.

And when we say there’s space for everything, we mean it. There’s even a drop in cupboard exclusively for the loo roll!

Built-in bathroom = Bonus storage

Now we’re into luxury territory: the built-in bathroom.

Aside from being a massive win for wild camping and privacy, it doubles up as brilliant storage for items such as clothing and even a picnic blanket which fits perfectly in the top cupboard.

The bathroom door clips open to create a private space, with a sink right opposite, so you’re not wasting space doubling up.

When we’re parked up, all the travel bags can go in there and out the way, made possible by the drop down shelf which secures over the toilet.

Sleeping space that makes sense

At bedtime, the pop-top reveals a massive double bed for the kids upstairs, while the downstairs converts into either a second double or two singles.

We love the walk-through option when it’s in single bed mode – makes midnight trips to the loo a doddle.

And even when it’s a full double, you can still nip to the toilet easily without climbing over anyone.

Optional awning = Outdoor space

Need even more space?

Whack out the drive away awning and you’ve got yourself an outdoor living room!

We set up a table for meals, and a light for late evenings. You can even sit with the fly net zipped up on warm nights.

And when it cools off, our thermal wrap makes the pop-top nice and cosy, even if you’re out in spring or autumn. We tested it during a chilly week and were toasty up top.

So why buy the MWB?

The short answer? Storage and comfort without compromise.

Compared to a SWB van, the MWB gives you:

  • More rear ‘van and under-bed space

  • Bigger kitchen area with proper storage

  • Flexible sleeping arrangements

  • Added room for a bathroom without losing living space

  • Easier long-term or family travel

It’s the sweet spot between manoeuvrability and practicality.

Still compact enough for smaller campsites and car parks, but roomy enough to actually live in.

A campervan that works as hard as you do

When you hit the road for real, with real gear and real family chaos, you need a campervan that can take it. The Trouvaille Classique MWB isn’t just pretty – it’s practical, proven, and properly built for big adventures.

We lived in ours for over two weeks and barely scratched the surface of its capacity. Whether you’re planning a European road trip, coastal campout, or a few nights off-grid, this ‘van can handle it.

Fancy levelling up your ‘van life?

A Trouvaille Classique MWB has got it all for you. Get in touch and we’ll help you find your perfect match.

Because if you’re gonna bring the kitchen sink, you might as well have room for it!
