At Orange Campers, we're never ones to rest on our laurels! We're always looking for the next clever way to make van life even better. And right now, the biggest shift we're seeing is this: everyone wants to go gas-free.
In fact, the last few Micro Campers rolling out of our workshop (including Mark's and Jenni's builds recently shared on our YouTube channel) were all gas-free!
And our early-2026 production run is now jam-packed with gas-free Micro Camper orders.
So today, we're going to show you why the gas-free option has quickly become the star of the show.
Even better: our next demo Micro Camper will be gas-free too, and you'll be able to see it for the very first time at The National Campervan Show, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, in April 2026. We can't wait to share it with you!
Why go gas-free in a micro camper?
A Micro Camper is already designed to make life simple, and our gas-free option makes it the ultimate compact camper, giving you more space, more flexibility, and far less faff. Going gas-free builds on that simplicity.
Being gas-free on its own doesn’t make the van off-grid — but it does set you up perfectly to add incredible capability with our dedicated Orange Campers Off-Grid Package. Pair the gasless layout with this package, and you’ve got a Micro Camper that can comfortably power your adventures with ease.
No gas bottles.
No refills.
No ventilation worries.
No faff!
You get a clean, modern setup powered entirely by lithium, solar and shore power, with cooking done via a portable induction hob. It's tidy, it's safer, and it frees up loads more storage — especially in the rear locker.
And the best part is that the off-grid performance can be incredibly efficient.
One recent gas-free Micro Camper featured in one of our videos came with 270W solar and a 300Ah lithium battery, and as Richard put it, "you never even consider power… you just know you've got it."
For a Micro Camper, that's huge. You can run your fridge, lights, USBs, heating and induction cooking without worrying about dropping below a comfortable battery level — even in winter.
What makes the Orange Campers gas-free Micro Camper special?
It's the combination of clever design, tiny-van practicality and more-than-capable off-grid tech.
Just look at the features customers have been loving so far…
More counter space, more storage, less fuss
Going gas free transforms the whole feel of the Micro Camper. Without a fixed gas hob, you get a beautifully clear worktop with a spacious square sink and plenty of prep space.
It’s cleaner, simpler and far easier to live with, especially in a compact van where every inch matters.
Removing the gas locker also frees up extra cupboard space, giving you room for kit, cookware or even a larger water container. It’s one of those small changes that makes a big difference to daily use.
And because there’s no gas system to service or refill, there's much less to think about. It’s very much a “get in and go” camper: no bottles, no checks, no hassle.
Flexible cooking, indoors or outdoors
Instead of a fixed hob, you simply use a portable induction hob, which can be stored neatly in a cupboard when not in use. This instantly gives you all that lovely worktop space back.
Even better, you can choose where to cook — indoors or outdoors. There’s a handy 230V socket by the sliding door, so you can pop the induction hob on a camp table and cook outside under the awning. Perfect for smelly food, splattery food, or just enjoying the fresh air.
More storage where gas bottles normally live
No gas locker = more cupboards! Several recent happy customers have used all the extra space that comes with gas-free life for kitchen gear, outdoor kit or a bigger water container.
Big power in a small van
When paired with our Off Grid Package, your Micro Camper becomes incredibly capable — with 270W solar and a 300Ah lithium battery giving you fast charging, huge capacity and confidence on longer trips.
All the usual Orange Campers cleverness
In every Micro Camper you'll find... RIB bed with ISOFIX, twin sliding doors, large wardrobe, huge under-seat drawers, pop-top roof with wide bed option, portable loo access from the second door, clever lighting, stylish upholstery – everything we’re known for.
And yes — it still fits in multi-storey car parks
Our Micro Camper's are under 2 metres (depending on awning spec), making them perfect for everyday driving, school runs, commutes and long weekends.

The Orange Campers Off-Grid Package
Being gas-free doesn’t automatically make a van off-grid — but it does set you up perfectly to add real power capability.
For full self-sufficiency, you can add the optional Orange Campers Off Grid Package, designed specifically for our Micro Camper range. It includes:
300Ah lithium battery package (huge capacity for a tiny van)
270W Austrian solar panel with 5-year warranty
EcoFlow Delta 3 Series 1800W system
£3,999 inc VAT
This gives you:
Massive usable battery power
Fast solar charging
Capacity to comfortably run induction cooking, fridge, lights, heating and tech
A truly capable, modern off-grid setup for real-world travel
It’s the perfect pairing with a gas-free layout — and it’s what powers most of our customers’ recent Micro Camper builds.
So… is gas-free the future?
We think so! And clearly, so do our customers.
The combination of modern tech, minimalist living, simpler servicing and unbeatable flexibility just works. Especially in smaller vans, where every inch of space matters.
And because so many of you have been asking, we’re now making gas-free our headline option for 2026.
Launching January 2026: our new gas-free demo Micro Camper!
We’ve got a brand-new demo build in progress — fully gas-free, fully off-grid, and showcasing all the latest upgrades we’re bringing into the Micro Camper range.
It’ll be making its first public appearance at The National Campervan Show in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on 17th–19th April 2026
…and then joining us at shows throughout the year.
If you’ve been waiting to try a gas-free setup in person… this is the one to come and see.
If you can’t make a show, don’t worry, you can still get the full experience.
Just book a Workshop Tour at our place in Rotherham, and we’ll give you a proper personal look around. You’ll be able to sit in the vans, try the layouts, ask us anything, and really get a feel for whether a gas-free Micro Camper is right for you.
We run tours throughout the week, they’re friendly, relaxed and completely no-pressure — just a chance to explore, chat and dream up your future adventures.
