Autumn’s here – and while the weather might be a bit unpredictable, it’s the perfect time to give your campervan a little TLC.

To make it even sweeter, we’re spreading a bit of warmth with our Autumn Acts of Kindness: the first 5 people to book a Habitation Check with us this season will receive a cosy care package, including a free Orange Campers hoodie and brolly to keep you snug and dry while we look after your ‘van.
Simply put, keeping up to date with your annual Habitation Check is one of the best things you can do for your ‘van. It’s now also a requirement under our warranty terms — so to keep your warranty valid, you’ll need to have your habitation check completed every year from your date of collection.
Our Habitation Checks are the best way to keep your camper in top condition, ready for your next adventure. Whether you’ve just finished a busy season of travels or you’re getting set for winter storage, now’s the ideal time to make sure everything’s working safely and efficiently.
It’s also the ideal time of year to think about extra touches or upgrades for your camper.
If you haven’t read it yet, check out our blog How to prepare your campervan for winter: what extras are available? for ideas on keeping cosy and well-equipped through the colder months.
What is a campervan Habitation Check?
Think of it as a full health check for your campervan — but focused on the living side rather than the mechanical parts.
A Habitation Check covers everything that makes your ‘van a home on wheels: gas, electrics, water, safety systems and the overall condition of the conversion. It ensures everything is working safely and efficiently, helping you avoid issues that could cut a trip short.
We recommend booking a check once a year, ideally in autumn or winter. That way, your camper’s ready to roll as soon as spring arrives.
And if you need to provide proof of maintenance to your insurance company, our checks come with all the relevant certificates you’ll need.

Why you need a Habitation Check for your campervan
While a Habitation Check isn’t a legal requirement, it is now a condition of your Orange Campers warranty. Each van must have an annual check from the date of collection to keep the warranty valid — ensuring that any potential issues are identified and resolved before they cause damage or downtime.
Beyond that, regular checks are simply good practice. Most Orange owners choose to do theirs at least annually, especially if their camper has had a busy season or any modifications added.
Here’s why it’s worth it:
It increases longevity – regular maintenance keeps your ‘van running happily for longer.
It helps retain value – a well-maintained camper with a full service record will hold its worth far better.
It saves money in the long run – catching small issues early can prevent big, expensive problems later.
It keeps you safe – all systems are tested to make sure you and your passengers are secure on every trip.
Even brand-new campers benefit from a check, and if yours has been sitting still for a while, it’s just as important — inactivity can cause its own issues.

Top tips for your Habitation Check
Don’t leave it too late. Autumn and winter are ideal for getting your check done before next year’s trips begin.
Think ahead. Got any upgrades or modifications in mind? It’s easy to add them while your ‘van’s with us.
Arrive with a clear space. Try to empty cupboards, fridge and bed areas before bringing your camper in — it helps us move around easily and saves time if you’re adding a valet too.
Remember: a Habitation Check doesn’t replace your MOT. We focus on the habitation and conversion side, not the mechanical aspects.
